Jewel had avocados on sale for $.99 each this week, so of course I had to start my weekly grocery haul there. While there, I picked up another 3lb bag of gala apples for $2.99 and an 8oz bag of spinach for just $.99 (usually $2.25!). Then I headed back to the meat section where I checked out the manager’s specials. I highly recommend that you find where the soon-to-be-expired meat is placed in your grocery store and stock up! You can get such great deals, but be sure you freeze the meat soon after buying because these finds often have sell by dates within the next day or two.
This week, I found 1.39lbs of London broil steak for $8.60 with a $2 off manager’s coupon, bringing the price down to $6.60, making the cost per pound $4.75 (my max steak price is $5.99/lb). I snatched up this deal, along with a few other items and headed to the checkout. As my cashier was ringing me up, I noticed that he’d taken off the $2 coupon from the steak, but I didn’t seem him scan it through. I politely asked if he’d applied the coupon, to which he replied yes, but I still wasn’t certain. After finishing my order and receiving my receipt, I quickly skimmed over it, and sure enough, the $2 coupon wasn’t reflected anywhere. The reason I had chosen to purchase that particular cut of meat was because of its manager’s special price. So I hauled myself over to customer service, and explained what had happened, and without even batting an eyelash (or checking my receipt), the store manager handed me $2 in cash.
Moral of the story: Always review your receipt before leaving the store, just to double check prices. If anything is off, head over to customer service and speak your piece. But always, always do it with a smile.
