When I taught English in France for a year, it seemed that everywhere I went I was being asked if I wanted water avec ou sans gaz. Being the American that I am, I always chose the still option. One day, however, I was feeling particularly adventurous, and opted for the bubbly variety.
I hated it. What was this water imposter? It was a soda wanna be. It fizzed like a soda. It burned my nose like a soda. But it most certainly did not taste like a soda. My taste buds were confused.
It wasn’t until I cut out sugar two years later that I gave sparkling water another chance. Ty was dying for something with flavor to drink during our Whole30 so we picked up some of this fizzy water to try. And this time it wasn’t so bad. Now, I actually enjoy the stuff!
You don’t often see sparkling water in my weekly grocery hauls because quite frankly, they’re expensive and tap water is, well, free. However, Ty and I both have jobs that stock the king of all sparkling waters: LaCroix.
Now I’m not so sure what makes LaCroix Water the best – it may just all boil down to the fact that they are Midwest made with eye-catching labels (although Ty claims their bubbles last longer than other brands!) – but regardless, their flavors are hard to beat. They have so many choices! Orange, Pamplemousse, Berry, Lime, Coconut, Passionfruit and the list goes on. And if you’re not into any of those, there’s always Pure, their unflavored sparkling water.
Drink LaCroix with a splash of orange juice and a lime for a fancy mocktail, mix it with some Pinot Grigio for a DIY wine spritzer, or sip it straight from the can. There’s no wrong way to enjoy it!
Are you a sparkling water fan? What’s your favorite flavor?
