I have found guac and salsa’s new best friend: Frontera Blue Corn Tortilla Chips. These chips are a tier above the rest. The use of indigo blue corn gives them a bolder flavor and when you bite into them, their crunch does not disappoint. With the perfect saltiness and just a hint of lime, these blue babies are my new favorite tortilla chip. Added bonus? They are locally made here in Chicago in small batches with organic corn and are certified non-GMO. Double bonus? They only cost $2.00 for a 10 ounce bag at Mariano’s. Score!
Apparently Frontera is actually a line of restaurants here in Chicago, owned by Chef Rick Bayless. After tasting these chips, I am now determined to visit all 6 of his restaurants! (Although the likelihood of me getting reservations at Topolobampo, his 1 Michelin star restaurant, is slim to none.)
I’m not sure if these chips are available in all stores or just here in Chicago, but I do know that they can be ordered online. If you ever run across a bag, I definitely suggest that you scoop it up. You’ll be munching these fabulous chips before you’re out the store door!
