This past weekend we had a little DIY fun! I love Do-It-Yourself projects not only because they save on money, but they get my creative juices flowing! After visiting Anthropologie, Ty and I felt inspired to amp up our apartment a bit, especially since we bought the cutest stoneware rolling pin (on sale for only $8!!) that needed a place to show off.
We simply took an old bookshelf Ty had bought years ago at Walmart for $20, some paint and brushes we had on hand from a couple other projects, et voilà! – a brand new place to display all of our kitchen items without spending a dime! It’s sitting at the end of our table that we bought for $200 at an antique store before moving to Chicago. The table has storage underneath the back end which is great for our small apartment, but doesn’t allow chairs to go around it, making it the perfect place for our new display cabinet. What I love about this upcycled bookshelf is that it’s not only aesthetically pleasing, it’s also very practical. All items on display were things we already owned (minus the newly acquired rolling pin!), but had been shoved in cupboards or were crowding our limited counter space. Now we’ve got extra prep room on our counters and a place to show off all our favorite kitchen items!
If you do decide you want to recreate something like this, but don’t have the materials on hand, you can buy it all for less than $27!
*Shout-out to our friend Amber for helping with this project!
