I work a regular 9-5 office job and my husband Ty is an actor which means that our schedules are usually pretty opposite. So on the nights that the two of us are home together, we make having dinner together a priority. We have this routine where we turn off all the overhead lights, turn on our small table lamp, say a blessing, and enjoy the next 20 minutes of concentrated one-on-one time.
Buuuuuuuuuuut this doesn’t always happen.
Some nights our kitchen table is so full of the week’s mess that we don’t have anywhere to sit besides the couch. And other nights we both are just so exhausted that we find ourselves sitting in front of the TV, tuning out. Even though we try to stick to our dinner routine, sometimes life just gets in the way.
That’s why when the I heard about the Billion Family Dinners Challenge, I was so excited to join! This campaign is challenging families to dine together more because studies show that those who eat with others and engage in conversation (unplugged!) experience health benefits like lower obesity rates and tend to be happier people.
Over the next 2 weeks, Ty and I are going to be taking the #10in2 #BillionDinners challenge. I’ve downloaded the DinnerCall app where I will be keeping track of each of our meals spent together. A meal can include breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, or anything in between! Really any quality time spent together sharing food counts. The app will track the amount of time we spend eating together as well as give conversation prompts. I’m curious to find out what kind of questions will be on the app and to see if I’ll learn anything new about Ty!
To join us in taking the #10in2 challenge, just download the app! (Android Google Play // iOS Apple Store) By tracking 10 dinners through the DinnerCall app from now until Nov. 15th, you will be entered to win one of five $100 grocery store gift cards! Get all the details at billiondinners.org/10in2.
